Vols Add Baggett As Receivers Coach
Coach Dooley may not have been a head coach long but he seems to have a history with a lot of great coaches.
One of his first hires outside of his current staff is St. Louis Rams receivers coach Charlie Baggett.
Before coming to the Rams this past January Baggett coached two seasons at the University of Washington.
Before that Baggett coached receivers at Miami (2005-2006), Minnesota (2000-2004), Green Bay (1999) and the old Houston Oilers (1993-1994).
Baggett has had his share of success at the NFL level, coaching at a 1,000-yard receiver in nine of his years in the league.
Aside from that NFL experience, Baggett has also spent time in the collegiate ranks. He coached with new Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur for eight seasons at Michigan State University (1983-1992), working with running backs and receivers. He later got a second stint with the Spartans, serving as associate head coach/receivers from 1995-1998.
Baggett got his coaching start as a running backs and receivers coach at Bowling Green in 1977. He stayed there until 1980 before moving to coach receivers at Minnesota from 1981-1982.
At any time we could hear news that Dooley has also added Texas Christian defensive coordinator Dick Bumpus to the staff. Bumpus's teams at TCU have been nothing short of amazing on defense. Bumpus spent time as a Tennessee assistant in the 80s
Other names that I am hearing is Georgia's Rodney Gardner, who is an incredible recruiter and fomrer Miami assistane Art Kehoe as offensive line coach.
It looks like Lance Thompson and Jim Chaney will remain on staff and keep their current positions.
I wish we could have kept Kippy Brown, aside from being a great coach, I think he would have been a great life mentor for the players.
