Top 10 Athletes Who Threw It All Away
After watching the attempted rehab press conference by Tiger Woods today, it made me think of other athetes who have been at the top only to come crashing down.
10) Dwight Gooden- When he first came into the league everyone was talking best pitcher ever, multiple Cy Youngs, and a can't miss Cooperstown plaque. Drugs were his downfall.
9) Darryl Strawberry- I know Tommy Lasorda really tried his best to help Straw who always seemed like a decent guy. Never was able to reach his potential. Drugs again.
8) Jose Canseco- Half of the Bash Brothers, along with Mark McGwire. His downfall was ratting out fellow players and the "I'll do anything for a buck" mentality.
7)Sammy Sosa/ Mark McGwire Their home run race may have been a temporary shot in the arm for baseball but they did far more harm by cheating and putting doubts in everyones minds about baseball stats.
6)Mike Tyson He could have went down as the best ever and been as respected as some of the other greats. He took bad advice and needed more friends than the leeches that robbed him.
5)Tiger Woods The first billionaire sports personality. He inspired millions to take up golf and seemed like a likable guy. Time will tell if he can rebound to be the best golfer ever but the endorsements are gone forever.
4)Pete Rose One of the best baseball players ever that couldn't control his gambling habit. Even with the gambling it was the lies that hurt him more.
3) Gilbert Arena/ Plaxico Burress I know that guys get tested in bars by drunken idiots but that is what you have an entourage for. Guns cost both of them millions.
2) Michael Vick Of all of the guys that are sorry for their mistake, Vick seems the most believable. I put him this far down this list because his crime actually hurt something other than himself.
1) O.J. Simpson O.J. had movie and ad gigs and even skated on a double murder rap. Even with a second chance that would have converted 99.9% of people he still ended up in prison.
Undoubtably, I left someone off this list. Feel free to add to my list.
