Preserving Gate 2 Of Ruth's House

I'm a history and baseball fanatic, I'll drive many miles out of my way to visit a attraction if something even slightly interesting occurred there. One of the saddest sights in the world is a historical marker telling the tale of a famous person or event, but all that you can see is an apartment building or mall. It's as if the sign reads "something great happened here once, but we tore it down to build this condo."
So many great baseball stadiums have met this end. Crosley Park in Cincinnati, Ebbets field in Brooklyn, and the Polo Grounds are all but a memory. You would never know that you were standing on sacred baseball ground, surrounded by highways and hospitals where these sports cathedrals once stood.
Old Yankee Stadium is about to fall to the wrecking ball and all of the ghosts from Monument Park packing their gear and moving their pepper games to their new home. At least we know what will stand in place of building that hosted some of the greatest players of all time. Heritage Park will rise from the ashes with a baseball and softball field for the residents of the Bronx.
A group of Yankee fans have also presented plans to preserve Gate 2, the oldest part of the Stadium, and make it a part of the park. The cost would be minimal and it would not affect the original park plans.
I really hope they are successful, so that fans like me could see a part of the historical marker, and who knows maybe catch a silhouette of a group of shadows from Monument Park enjoying a game of pepper.
