Meadowlark Lemon Comes To Tennessee

It's nearly impossible to mention the Harlem Globetrotters without thinking of the name Meadowlark Lemon a second later. The legendary leader of the Trotters has kept busy since leaving the team in the 70s. He has dabbled in television, had a few All-Star teams, and has become an ordained minister. Basketball however, has always been the outlet that the"Clown Prince" has used to touch people's lives and entertain them.
I don't think that Lemon and the Globetrotters get enough credit for their role in not only producing great family entertainment but also in their civil rights accomplishments. Their ability to bring black and whites together showed that we are not all that different, we apparently all love a good mix of basketball with comedy.
At 77, Lemon apparently has no plans of retiring anytime soon. He recently announced the formation of a new ABA teamed called the Smoky Mountain Jam. The Jam will play their games in Maryville,TN. When asked why he had chosen the smaller community outside of Knoxville, he remarked that it had found him intead, He would add that he just loved the people and the area and that the success of Pat Summitt's Lady Vols proved that there were some great basketball fans in the area.
If he brings the marketing and has an competitive team, I'm sure that the Jam will be another in an long line of success stories for the great Lemon.
