LIke Father, Like Son

With Father's Day just around the corner, I was curious to see just how many father and son combinations have either played or managed in Major League Baseball.
So lets take a look at how many father and son games of catch were successful enough to develop into a second generation player.
At last count 182 fathers and sons have both either played or managed one game in the Big Leagues.
Of the 182 combinations are 9 Hall-Of-Famers, including Earl Averill, Yogi Berra, Eddie Collins, Jim, O'Rourke, Tony Perez, Tony Gwynn, Fred Lindstrom, and Ed Walsh on the father's team.
Cal Ripken Jr. is the only second generation Hall-Of-Fame player, with Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr. one day joining that elite club.
Speaking of Griffey Jr. he and his father played on the same team in 1990, a feat only matched once when Tim Raines Sr. played briefly with his son in Baltimore in 2001.
Nine dads have accomplished a very rare feat, sending two sons to the Majors. Sandy Alomar with Roberto and Sandy Jr., Bob with Aaron and Bret, Dave Duncan with Chris and Shelley, Sammy Hairston with Jerry and Johnny, Jerry Hairston with Jerry Jr. and Scott, Dave LaRoche with Adam and Andy, George Sisler with Dave and Dick, Mel Stottlemyre with Mel and Todd, and Dixie Walker with Dixie and Harry.
The Hairston's and the Boone's are the only third generation families of record.
If you are fortunate to still have your father around, I'm positive that he would love to have a game of catch or take in a ball game with you on Father's Day.
Happy Father's Day everyone.
