Hostessgate
Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin must be on the NCAA's speed dial list. He has accumulated at least six secondary violations since becoming the Vols coach last year.
The latest involves college hostesses, who welcome recruits during offical visits. The problem is that some from UT may have traveled out of state to watch player's high school games. It wouldn't be a problem unless a coach paid their way or directed them to go.
This seems like such a small deal to focus on as the NCAA still hasn't found the time to do anything about USC and the Reggie Bush fiasco. Bush may have been given thousands by an agent and his family was allegedly given a house by USC boosters.
The NCAA investigators just don't get it. They still refer to major college football as a sport and players as student athletes. Nothing could be farther from the truth. College football is a business and in some parts of the country it is nothing short of a religion. Schools make millions from TV deals and tickets that in some cases cost more than pro tickets. This money is used to fund academic programs and non revenue producing sports.
So the NCAA thinks that they can police something that is so important to fans and schools? They can't be that naive and to cherry pick a few schools while turning their back on more obvious violations shows their bias.
I have lived in several college towns and have personally seen athletes driving 50k cars. The only way to stop it is to crack down hard and to destroy major college football and at the same time create a minor football league so players who are not interested in getting an education can have an avenue to the pros.
