Chris Paul is unstoppable
May 10th 2008 21:08
Chris Paul is in his third NBA season for the New Orleans Hornets and making it a fun one for fans to watch. Paul averaged 21.1 ppg and 11.6 apg. This is only the ninth time a player has averaged 20 ppg and 10 apg. Paul also led his team, the New Orleans Hornets to 17 more victories than last year. The Hornets finished the season with a record of 56-26 while gaining the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs. For his efforts this season Paul was one of the top candidates for MVP this year.
In the first round Paul matched up against veteran point guard Jason Kidd. Paul exposed Kidd with his youth, quickness and all-around game. Paul made Kidd look old and past his prime. The Dallas Mavericks tried all sorts of ways and schemes to stop Paul including springing double teams on him, throwing traps at him, guarding him with a full-court press and putting a bigger defender on him. None of these techniques worked. Paul made amazing plays with regularity displaying his athleticism, court awareness and passing ability. Paul dominated the series by putting up 24.6 ppg and 12 apg. Paul led his team over the Mavericks in five games.
Paul and the Hornets are now going up against Tony Parker and the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. He is averaging 27.3 ppg and 11.3 apg against one of the most defensive minded teams in the NBA. Paul and Parker put on a show in game 3 going back and forth. The Hornets lead the series 2 games to 1 and look to go up 3 games to 1 on Sunday.
Paul has taken the Hornets to new heights, made his teammates better, and made the game exciting for anyone to watch. It’s amazing that he finished 306 votes behind Kobe Bryant for the MVP award. It almost seems that the voters gave Bryant the award out of sympathy for him not having won one already. Paul should’ve won the MVP award for all that he does for his team, for how much he has contributed to his them and for turning this team into one of the elites in the Western Conference.
