Cherry Juice: The New Sports Drink
May 31st 2009 01:35
Move over Gatorade and Powerade you may soon be replaced by cherry juice. Scientists have discovered that taking 10.5 ounces(~300mL) twice a day for one week before a scheduled athletic event reduced muscle pain. Not only is the juice a good antioxidant but, it also seems to have excellent anti-inflammatory abilities.
More research is needed for the benefit for non athletes, but because cherry juice is not a medicine it would be advisable for people who suffer from arthritis, certain heart conditions, and even fibromyalgia to add it to their daily fluid intake.
If you want to try cherry juice be sure to check the percentage of cherry juice. If the studies prove true then many companies may add drinks with as little as 5% juice to the market.
I'll begin my one week self study and report back on any improvements from my many sports related aches and pains.
